Simone Biles is looking to book her third time to represent the US in the Olympics. She is currently participating in the US Olympic Gymnastics in Minneapolis. Biles is a seven-time Olympic medalist. Also, she is part of 20 men and 16 women trying to be on the US gymnastics team in the Paris Olympics.
After a long hiatus to focus on her mental health, she is making a triumphant comeback to gymnastics and has a chance to become just the fourth American woman to play in three Olympics.
According to bookie PPH experts, the 27-year-old broke the record for most gymnast medals at the world championships last year. However, she faces a formidable opponent in Minneapolis.
Simone Biles at the US Gymnastics Trials
There are strong contenders among the five-person lineup. Suni Lee, the reigning Olympic all-around champion who returned to the sport last year after a kidney illness diagnosis; Jade Carey, the Olympic floor winner; and Jordan Chiles, the team silver medalist, all bring impressive achievements.
After a solid run at the Core Hydration Classic and the US Gymnastics Championships, Shilese Jones and Skye Blakely will go into the trails in second and third place behind Simone Biles. Injuries to Gabby Douglas's ankle this month dashed her hopes of returning to gymnastics for the Olympics after a hiatus. According to sportsbook reviews and news sites, Douglas has won gold medals at the Olympics three times.
With her record-extending seventh all-around win at the US Championships four weeks ago, Biles is the one who takes center stage in the women's competition. By winning all four events and earning the maximum possible score, Biles solidified her place as the undisputed leader in gymnastics heading into the Paris Olympics. Three years before, she had to withdraw from the Tokyo Games because of "the twisties," which mess with gymnasts' body control.
Biles reported feeling no stress or anxiety after the US championships and said she's having fun on the gymnastics mat.
Olympic Qualifiers
The athlete with the best overall score at the end of the two-day trials will be guaranteed a spot on the Olympic squad. After the trials, a selection committee uses results from events held since September 2023 to choose the remaining four team members.
The men's competition has somewhat different selection criteria. If they finish in the top three in at least three individual apparatus events, the best overall trial performer will earn a spot on the Olympic squad. The selection committee will pick the other four members based on team-scoring scenarios and subjective factors.
Just last month, Brody Malone won his third national all-around title. He aims to get a berth in the Olympics, continuing his return from a catastrophic knee injury he received last year. It appears that Khoi Young and Fred Richard will join Malone on the squad after they take second and third, respectively, at the US Championships. Both aim to make their Olympic debut after earning medals at the international championships last year.
